The Navy is a maritime force, but its scope of responsibilities requires it to conduct significant operations on land and in the air. To accomplish its multitude of tasks, the Navy is organized into four numbered fleets, the Fleet Amphibious Force, the Fleet Expeditionary Force, Navy Construction Force, and several naval commands to include Training Command, Facilities Command, Personnel Command, Security Command, Judicial Command, Recruiting Command, Medical Command, and Development Command.
The ROD is an island nation, and appropriately, the Navy is the largest and arguably most important branch of the military. The Navy has two primary missions defending the Home Island, and projecting power around the globe. Sometimes that power projection is in the form of combat operations, while other times it means providing humanitarian assistance, protecting ROD interests around the world, or ensuring freedom of navigation.
